Update...

Hi everyone :-)

A little update...

Maia is still being seen yearly as she has
developed Avascular Necrosis, and seems also to
have a very slight leg length discrepancy now.

We can't know what the future holds in store for
her just yet, so it case of waiting and seeing
how her skeleton matures as time goes on.

A big thank you as ever for all the support and
emails we receive, I'm so thrilled the site has
helped so many of you, it really makes it
worthwhile to know.

Take care everyone,

Tracy, Rob, Maia & Cadence. x x

Update...

Its been a while since I've updated the site,
there has been a lot of emails lately, I'm not
sure if this is good or bad! Bad that so many
more babies are going through it but good that it
at least is being picked up more easily...

A few of you have asked if Cadence has hip
complications too, and thankfully, no, she has
been given the all clear after several checks.
Maia has yearly appointments now to check on her
development as she has got Avascular Necrosis.

I hope you're all well and wish everyone a very
merry christmas and a happy new year!

Love from Tracy, Rob, Maia & Cadence. x x x

New photo of Pavlik hipkid!!

I would just like to let everyone know that there
is a new photo in the Pics section of a hipkid in
a Pavlik Harness.
Hipkid Joshua went into his Pavlik Harness at just
10 weeks old, he tolerated it remarkably well, and
as you'll see on the photo is a very happy baby
indeed. He spent just 7 weeks in his Harness and
at the next hip check was given the all clear
which just shows if you get them on early enough
they DO work :o)
Joshua's Mum Lucy has also kindly offered to
answer any questions regarding the Pavlik that
anyone may have, so please, as always, do not
hesitate to contact us and we'll pass your queries
onto Lucy who may be able to help :o)
Take care everyone :o) Tracy, Rob, Maia and the
bump. xxxxx

Posting Comments

Can I just ask that people only post 'real and
relevant' comments in response to the News
section, a few eroneous additions have been made
lately in the form of links and attempts at ad's
and pictures. I have attempted to contact the
offending poster but to no avail (incorrect
realm). Please refrain from commenting unless in
relation to the site. Thanks. :o)

Hello everyone :o)
Again it has been a while since any updates have
been posted, I am so pleased with how busy the
site has been, and I hope all the people that have
contacted us are doing well with their hip-kids.
We have some news for everyone, Maia's appointment
in february went wonderfully and her hips feel
fine, she has another check up in August where
Xrays will be taken to check everything is OK and
her bones are beginning to ossify, as we are still
concerned she may develop Avascular Necrosis from
being in the Cast & Brace for so long.
Maia took her very first steps on Saturday 25th
March (she managed 3 steps without falling on her
bum and we cheered), she is now toddling around
fairly confidently and it is amazing to watch.
Rob and I are getting married in May and have also
found we are expecting our second child in
November. We have had a very difficult two years
with Maia's treatment and also having
miscarriages, it is nice to have something to look
forward to and some wonderful news to share.
Take care everyone and as ever please keep the
questions coming. Tracy, Rob, Maia & the bump. :o)

Update

Its been a while since I have updated the site, so
much has happened!
Maia is commando crawling, and is standing (with
support), she also has 2 teeth now.
We are hoping for some steps before Christmas, as
she is becoming steadier and steadier on her feet.
Her legs seem to be gaining strength, and it is
lovely to have a contraption-free child. The time
has gona so fast since her brace was removed at
the beginning of november, her next check up is in
February and we're hoping things will continue to
be positive. Thanks for everyones support and as
ever if anyone has questions do not hesitate to
contact us. Best Wishes, Tracy, Rob & Maia. x x

Update on Maia.

We have quite a few updates to report:

On September 15th, Maia began rolling over again,
with and without the brace on. This has been a
huge achievement, as the brace she is now in is
quite wide, and she really heaves herself over.
It is her way of getting around, and it is quite
the norm now for her to roll from room to room!

On September 23rd, Maia beared her own weight and
stood up with a little help for a few seconds.
This has gradually progressed to become a lot more
frequent, although the length of time has remained
the same. She is getting lots stronger though,
and we hope for more standing action soon!

Maia turned 1 on October 7th, and had a little
party the following day for all her friends and
relatives, she was amazingly behaved throughout,
and even had her face painted.

The past few nights she has woken up in what
seemed to be pain, and we were concerned as to
what the cause was. However, this morning when we
were giving her breakfast, we spied that her very
first tooth has made an appearance, and that has
been the reason for the night-waking. So 2 days
after her 1st birthday she has her first tooth.

Now we are just waiting for her next Hip-check at
the hospital on November 1st, where we are hoping
to get the all-clear to remove her brace for good.

We will keep you all informed, take care everyone
and best wishes,

Tracy, Rob & Maia. x

New Links & Feedback.

Hi everyone,

just to let people know that as of today there
have been A LOT of new links added (my fingers are
sore from typing :oD ).
I have checked them all and they seem fine, but
please let me know if you encounter any problems
when using them.

Also, I have received so much good feedback from
people lately regarding this site, and I'm really
happy that everyone has found something useful on
here. I have also had a couple of suggestions
from Mums of other Hip Kids, both from UK and
USA. I have since updated the Traction
information, and added a passage about HD coupled
with Cerebral Palsy in infants.

If anyone else out there has any information they
think would be useful, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

Take care everyone,

Tracy, Rob & Maia.

ps- nobody has posted any messages yet, I'm unsure
as to whether this is because I'm being emailed,
or whther there is a problem with the 'post
message' area? Again, if any problems are
encountered please let us know so we can solve
them a.s.a.p. Thanks. ;o)

Update

We went to the hospital yesterday for Maia's hip
check. The doc says things are progressing
nicely, and he'll see her again in 8 weeks, when
hopefully the brace can be removed. Counting the
days...

Fingers crossed!
